Dundee United boss Peter Houston leaves the Scottish Premier League club, despite originally planning to see out the rest of the season.

Dundee United have announced that manager Peter Houston has left the club by mutual consent.

The 54-year-old was expected to see out the remainder of the season following his decision not to sign a new contract at Tannadice Park.

The club released a statement on their official website, which said: "[Houston] leaves with the thanks of everyone at the club and best wishes for the future."

Houston, who moved to the club in 2009, could be replaced by Falkirk boss Steven Pressley, who has been heavily tipped to move to Dundee.
