FC Dallas have missed the chance to move to the top of the Western Conference after slumping to their first home defeat of the season against Colorado Rapids.
The Texans made the worst possible start, with Dominique Badji firing Dillon Powers's low cross beyond the reach of keeper Chris Seitz inside the opening two minutes.
Badji almost added a second six minutes before the break when his shot went narrowly wide after latching on to Marcelo Sarvas's pass.
However, the Rapids quickly doubled their advantage after Powers managed to charge into the Dallas area before driving a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
That prompted the home side into a double substitution at the break, with Kyle Bekker and Atiba Harris drafted in to replace Michel and Moises Hernandez.
The change did little to alter Dallas's fortunes and they fell further behind with 20 minutes remaining, as Gabriel Torres sealed the three points following good build-up play from Juan Ramirez.
Torres then turned provider for Dillon Serna to net a fourth goal for Colorado, who now move into seventh in the Western Conference.
