Russell Penn: Cheltenham Town not "downhearted" by Everton defeat

Goalscorer Russell Penn tells Sports Mole that Cheltenham Town are not "downhearted" by their heavy defeat against Everton.

Cheltenham Town midfielder Russell Penn has insisted that the League Two outfit will not be affected by their 5-1 defeat to Everton in the FA Cup last night.

The visiting Toffees named a strong starting lineup for the tie, which included at least nine players that have started on a regular basis in the Premier League this season.

Despite the heavy loss, Penn has revealed that all of the playing squad "enjoyed the occasion" at Whaddon Road.

"Obviously the result is all that matters but everyone expected us to lose. We went out there any enjoyed the occasion," he told Sports Mole.

"I think the lads did all right. We had a lot of chances but conceded some sloppy goals, which we probably wouldn't have conceded on a normal Saturday in the league. These lads that we played against tonight only need half a chance and it is in the back of your net. We're not going to be downhearted because it is out of the way now.

"Apart from Steven Pienaar, it was their full strength team so fair play to David Moyes and the squad. They didn't underestimate us because they've come and watched us a few times and thought that they needed to play a full strength team. It's great for us as players to play against the best."

Penn was the Cheltenham goalscorer against Moyes's side and the 27-year-old has admitted that he was delighted to have found the net.

"It was great. Whenever you score it is a great occasion but to score against a Premier League outfit is even better. It's something to tell the kids and the grandkids when they are older," he added.

The Robins are back in league action this weekend when they host York City.
