Roma reportedly agree a £5.4m fee with Juventus to take striker Gonzalo Higuain on loan for the 2019-20 season.

Roma have reportedly agreed on a £5.4m fee with Juventus to take Gonzalo Higuain on loan for the 2019-20 campaign.

The striker struggled for form throughout last season, spending unsuccessful loan spells at AC Milan and then Chelsea, managing just five goals in 18 appearances for the latter.

Juventus, who are looking to promote young talents like Moise Kean next season, would prefer to send Higuain out on loan again.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma have agreed to pay Juventus £5.4m for a loan deal, which would include an option for the Serie A club to sign him permanently for £24m in 2020.

While sporting director Gianluca Petrachi is determined to bring Higuain to Rome, the striker is leaning towards remaining at Juventus.

The 31-year-old would reportedly even be prepared to sign a new deal with Juventus until 2023, which would mean his earnings dropping from £8m per season to £4m, thus precluding the Serie A champions from the need to sell him.
