The Ivorian striker is available on a free transfer after failing to agree a new deal with former club Chelsea.
Sources close to the player indicate that he is considering offers from several European clubs, according to talkSPORT.
Newcastle could face stiff competition for his signature from Bundesliga side Schalke, where he will have the opportunity to experience Champions League football.
Kalou has also been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Turkish club Galatasaray.
