Chelsea have reportedly failed in their latest attempt to secure a loan deal for Juventus forward Gonzalo Higuain.
The Argentina international is currently scheduled to spend the entire campaign at AC Milan, where he has contributed eight goals and two assists from 20 outings in Serie A and the Europa League.
However, AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has suggested that Higuain is keen to leave San Siro, and Chelsea are known to hold a strong interest in the 31-year-old.
Higuain is regarded as a potential replacement for Alvaro Morata, but according to the London Evening Standard, Juventus have decided to turn down an approach from the Blues.
The report suggests that Juventus want an option for Chelsea to sign Higuain for £32m to be included in any deal, but the Premier League side are said to be against those terms.
Maurizio Sarri is known to be an admirer of Higuain, who is regarded as his preferred option to replace Morata.
