Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: 'Signing Papy Djilobodji was not my choice'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits that he did not choose to sign defender Papy Djilobodji on transfer deadline day last week.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that it was not his decision to sign defender Papy Djilobodji on the final day of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League champions secured the surprise capture of the 27-year-old from Nantes last week, but he was not named in the club's Champions League squad.

"He was not my choice, he was the choice of someone I trust completely - that's the same thing," Mourinho said in Friday's press conference. "The same person that told me Djilobadji could be fantastic for us is the same who said Zouma could be fantastic.

"He's not in the Champions League squad because, if he is, Kennedy and Traore are not in the list. If they are not, you ask why, because Champions League is good for their development. We will be very unlucky if in six matches we need Djilobadji in the team."

Djilobodji, whose contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2019, made 32 appearances for Nantes.
