Chelsea reportedly ban players from wearing shirts proclaiming support for captain John Terry.

Chelsea have reportedly banned players from wearing shirts proclaiming support for captain John Terry.

Players were planning to don the shirts following Terry's charge from the Crown Prosecution Service for allegedly racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand, according to The Sun.

Liverpool players came under fire for wearing similar shirts in support of striker Luis Suarez, who was found guilty of making racially abusive remarks towards Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

"We were aware of the idea being discussed among some of the players and staff," the paper quotes a Chelsea spokesperson as saying.

"The club fully supports John but did not think the wearing of T-shirts was an appropriate or helpful show of that support."

Terry is due to appear before at West London magistrates court on February 1.
