Marco van Ginkel out for season?

Marco van Ginkel will miss the rest of the season with torn cruciate ligaments.

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel will miss the rest of the season after tearing his cruciate ligament in his right knee, according to reports.

The summer signing was stretchered off during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Swindon Town on Tuesday night and scans have confirmed the worst fears, a journalist for FourFourTwo magazine said on Twitter.

The report says that Van Ginkel's agent Rob Jansen revealed that an MRI scan revealed the ligament tear, with the player also likely to miss the World Cup in 2014.

Van Ginkel, who was taken off in the first half of Chelsea's win, will undergo surgery later this week.
