Jose Mourinho reveals that his assistant Aitor Karanka has opted to stay in Madrid as opposed to joining the Portuguese coach at Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has revealed that his Real Madrid assistant Aitor Karanka has rejected the chance to move to Chelsea.

The Portuguese boss was confirmed as the Blues' new manager this week, bringing a number of his coaching staff with him to Stamford Bridge.

While Mourinho was keen to team up with his assistant in London, Karanka has instead opted to remain in Madrid.

"Aitor became one of us," Mourinho told Spanish television show Punto Pelota. "He defended those working for us and the club. I wanted him to continue, but understand his decision."

Mourinho left the Bernabeu after three years in charge.
