Frank Lampard 'in talks over vacant Oxford United job'

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is being considered by Oxford United to succeed Michael Appleton as their new manager, according to a report.

Frank Lampard has reportedly spoken to Oxford United about their vacant managerial position as he prepares to take his first steps into coaching.

The Chelsea legend, who called time on his playing career in February following a stint in Major League Soccer, is one of a number of candidates in the running to take over at the Kassam Stadium.

Former Swansea City assistant Pep Clotet is also said to have been interviewed, while Chris Powell and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have previously been touted, but Sky Sports News claims that Oxford are seriously considering Lampard for the job.

Speaking last month, Lampard revealed that he is interested in becoming a manager and will mould himself on someone like Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.

United are on the lookout for a new head coach following Michael Appleton's decision to depart for Leicester City, where he will work alongside Craig Shakespeare.
