Roberto Di Matteo feels that Chelsea deserved a point from their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea interim manager Roberto Di Matteo believes that his side deserved a point from their game with Manchester City tonight.

The Blues took the lead at the Etihad Stadium but a Sergio Aguero spot kick and a Samir Nasri strike saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat.

Despite the loss, Di Matteo praised his side's effort and feels that the game was swung on what he describes as a "harsh" penalty decision.

"I think we fought very hard and probably think we deserved a point at least," he said.

"The penalty gave them a big lift because we were defending very well at that point and that gave them that little hope that they needed.

"It was a bit harsh. It was handball for sure, but I don't think he could have made his arms disappear."

Chelsea are now five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the chase for a Champions League qualifying place.
