Thibaut Courtois wants Chelsea starting spot

Thibaut Courtois says that he is unwilling to play for Chelsea next season if he is not their first-choice goalkeeper.

Thibaut Courtois has said that he is unwilling to play for Chelsea next season if he is not their first-choice goalkeeper.

The 22-year-old has been on loan at Atletico Madrid for the past three seasons and is likely to return to Stamford Bridge for the next campaign.

The Blues' current number one keeper is Petr Cech, who was named in the PFA Team of the Year last season.

Courtois has said that talks between him and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho have taken place regarding his future, but any definitive decision will not be made until after the World Cup.

"When will I know about my future? It will be after the World Cup I think, then everything will be clear," The Mirror quotes him as saying.

"I spoke to [Mourinho] in May, before the game against Barcelona. In the week he discussed with me what he thinks about me and about everything. That is it.

"Do I want to number one wherever I play next season? Yes, I think with my age and the performances I had I want to play. To be on the bench is not the nicest thing."

Courtois is currently with the Belgium squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil, where they will face Algeria in their opening Group H game on June 17.
