Eidur Gudjohnsen has claimed that Ross Barkley 'disrespected' his Chelsea teammates by taking responsibility for a penalty against Valencia in the Champions League.
With the Blues trailing by a 1-0 scoreline, they were handed a penalty during the closing stages, with Barkley quickly grabbing the ball ahead of a number of teammates, including regular taker Jorginho.
Manager Frank Lampard has insisted that the team were aware that Barkley, who had only just been introduced into the action, would be given the duties providing that he was on the pitch.
However, former forward Gudjohnsen feels that either Jorginho or Willian - another to argue his case before the spot kick was taken - were in line to shoot from 12 yards ahead of Barkley, who subsequently hit the crossbar.
Gudjohnsen told BT Sport: "It's almost disrespectful to your teammates to do something like what Ross Barkley did this evening. I'm pretty sure it's clear who is the penalty taker before the game.
"Just to create all the fuss, the tension between your teammates and yourself and then go on to miss the penalty, you just put yourself under so much more pressure than actually just taking a penalty."
Chelsea ultimately succumbed to defeat to the La Liga outfit in Tuesday's encounter at Stamford Bridge.
