Ronny Deila plays down concerns over Stjarnan's plastic pitch

Celtic boss Ronny Deila rubbishes suggestions that his side could struggle to adapt to a plastic pitch during their Champions League qualifier with Stjarnan.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has shrugged off concerns that his players could struggle to adapt to playing on a plastic pitch when they face Stjarnan on Wednesday.

The Scottish champions travel to Iceland for the second leg of their Champions League second qualifying round clash tomorrow night, defending a 2-0 lead from last week's encounter in Glasgow.

Stjarnan boss Runar Pall Sigmundsson suggested in his press conference that Celtic could have trouble on his side's synthetic pitch, but Deila is confident that the surface will prove to be better than many they play on throughout a Scottish Premiership campaign.

"He has to take a trip to Scotland and look at some games there. I don't think he knows what Scotland is about. It is not only Celtic Park in Scotland," Deila told reporters.

"He can go to Inverness and Ross County, places not so different from this one. And I am very positive about artificial surfaces. It is much better to play on a good artificial than very bad grass pitch.

"Everybody wants to play on a very good grass pitch like at Celtic Park but I think the surroundings are going to be good with a surface that we had to handle at Hamilton and Kilmarnock last season - and we did that quite well. So I am looking forward to the game."

Should Celtic make it past Stjarnan then a third qualifying round clash against either FK Qarabag or Rudar awaits them.
