Burnley are set to offer Sunderland £3m for Dan Neil in the upcoming January transfer market, according to a report.
So far this season the midfielder has featured 21 times in League One where he has scored twice, while he also appeared in all five of their EFL Cup matches.
The Sun have reported that the Clarets will offer Sunderland £3m in order to test the water for Neil, who Burnley's chief scout recently watched against Arsenal.
The club are also considering an option to buy and then loan him back to the Black Cats until the end of the season, but it remains to be seen whether or not this deal would be accepted.
Sean Dyche's squad are currently in the relegation zone, having won just a single game so far in the Premier League.
The Clarets will be back in action on December 30 as they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.
