Sean Dyche hails match-changing Tom Heaton save in win over Southampton

Burnley manager Sean Dyche admits that Tom Heaton's second-half penalty save was a "massive moment" and inspired them to their 1-0 victory over Southampton.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has admitted that Tom Heaton's second-half penalty save inspired them to their 1-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Ashley Barnes scored a winner which lifts the Clarets out of the Premier League relegation zone, after Heaton had kept out Dusan Tadic's spot kick on the hour.

Dyche has admitted that was a "massive moment" in the match at Turf Moor, and not the first time during a run of one defeat in six games that Burnley have been thankful to their goalkeeper.

"We've had to dig in again. I thought in the first half we played very well and maybe surprised them a little bit," he told reporters.

"In the second half, they managed to grow into the game and we had to keep our resilience, shape and mentality to get the win.

"The penalty save was a massive moment. It is a penalty but we believe in Tom Heaton. He's made big saves for us before and has made that one today. It changed the feel of the game and our lads got back on the front foot. We responded well after that and delivered a good performance as the game went on."

Heaton joined the Lancashire outfit last summer following a spell at Bristol City.
