Brentford defender James Tarkowski refuses to play against Burnley

Brentford defender James Tarkowski is under disciplinary action for refusing to play in tonight's Championship match against Burnley.

Brentford have announced that defender James Tarkowski is under disciplinary action after refusing to play against Burnley in tonight's Championship match.

The 23-year-old was selected by manager Dean Smith to start in tonight's clash, but the player informed him that he has no intention of playing at Griffin Park.

Tarkowski has been linked with a move to tonight's opponents, who are believed to be considering a fresh bid after their initial £2.5m offer was turned down.

A statement from Brentford read: "James Tarkowski will be the subject of internal disciplinary action after telling head coach Dean Smith that he did not wish to play against Burnley in tonight's Sky Bet Championship match.

"Following discussions with Smith, Tarkowski declared himself unavailable for the fixture despite being selected in the starting lineup. As a result of these actions, he will be disciplined by the club.

"Any resulting sanction will remain confidential and the club will make no further comment on potential punishment. Tarkowski has been the subject of transfer bids during the current January Transfer Window but none have matched the club's valuation of the player. In fact, all recent bids have been substantially lower than one that was rejected last year."

The defender joined Brentford on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Oldham Athletic in January 2014.
