Bournemouth confirm the signing of French midfielder Romain Faivre, who will head out on loan to Ligue 1 side Lorient.

Bournemouth have announced the signing of midfielder Romain Faivre from French club Lyon.

The Cherries have paid a €15m (£12.8m) fee for Faivre, who has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Premier League side.

Faivre has been immediately sent back to Ligue 1 side Lorient, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

The former France Under-21 international was a regular starter for Lorient, contributing five goals and three assists in 17 games.

Lyon have stated that they have a 10% sell-on clause on the 25-year-old, who made 28 competitive appearances for Les Gones.

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told the club's official website: "It's great for the club to have secured such a talent in Romain.

"He's a player we've been monitoring for a number of years since his move to Brest, and we were particularly impressed with his progress while on loan at Lorient.

"We wish him all the best for the coming season and look forward to seeing him continue his development."

The Cherries will be able to keep a close eye on Faivre's progress, due to the fact that Bournemouth owner Bill Foley is a minority shareholder at Lorient.

Foley, who is keen to pursue a multi-club ownership model, purchased a 33% stake in the Ligue 1 club earlier this year.
