League Managers Association chairman Howard Wilkinson has confirmed that Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe was considered for the England manager's job prior to Gareth Southgate's appointment.
The 39-year-old, considered one of the most talented young managers in the English game, steered the Cherries to an emphatic 4-3 win over Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
Wilkinson, who was on a five-man panel that interviewed Southgate for the Three Lions vacancy, told BBC Sport: "Eddie was considered.
"He fulfilled many of the criteria but at the end of the day Gareth was in place, he had many of the qualities and experience that was thought important.
"I'm sure Eddie's time will come. Foreign managers were considered but what was taken into account was what is the way forward."
Howe celebrated his 300th game in charge of Bournemouth on Sunday.
