Eddie Howe describes Bournemouth's 2-1 win against Arsenal as "huge", as his side recovered from a goal down at the Vitality Stadium to bolster their survival hopes.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has praised his players for the "spirit and desire" shown to edge out Arsenal 2-1 in "a famous win for the club".

The Cherries picked up a first Premier League victory over the Gunners at the sixth attempt after recovering from a goal down on the south coast.

Hector Bellerin gave Arsenal the lead early in the second half to leave Bournemouth staring at defeat, but Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe found the net to change the mood around the Vitality Stadium.

Rather than looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone, the Cherries instead climb to 13th in the table and are four clear of danger following a fourth league game without defeat.

"It is a huge win for us. Every win in the Premier League is important," Howe told BBC Sport. "It was a tight game, not a lot in it but we showed the spirit and desire to come back from a losing position.

"I am delighted with the attitude of the players today. Our fitness levels were very good today, statistically we are one of the fitter teams in the division.

"In this division if you can get two or three wins your whole outlook can change, then if you get two or three defeats it all changes, we have just tried to be very stable. We will enjoy tonight, that was a famous win for the club."

Bournemouth next face Wigan Athletic in an FA Cup third-round replay, before travelling to West Ham United in six days' time.
