Bordeaux scored once in each half to secure a 2-0 victory over Valenciennes at home in Ligue 1.
The home side did most of the running in the first 30 minutes, with Jaroslav Plasil and Nicolas Maurice-Belay going close.
David Bellion also had an effort saved just after the half-hour mark after he was set up by Henri Saivet outside the box.
It was Bellion who broke the deadlock a minute later as he slotted home from close range after a loose ball fell to him.
Valenciennes could have headed into the break levelled at 1-1 had Younousse Sankhare and Mathieu Dossevi been lucky with their attempts.
The pattern continued in the second half, Saivet and Ludovic Obraniak trying their luck in the first 15 minutes as Valenciennes failed to launch any attack.
Bordeaux eventually scored their second goal and wrapped up the win in the 71st minute when Obraniak turned in Benoit Tremoulinas's pass from the centre of the penalty box.
