Benfica midfielder Andre Gomes was impressed with how his teammates responded to Newcastle United's "aggressive" style of play in the Portuguese side's 3-1 Europa League quarter-final first-leg win on Thursday night.
Despite going a goal down Benfica went on to dominate the game, with Gomes claiming that they now have a "good chance" to get through.
"We had to get used to Newcastle's way of playing – a more aggressive style than ours – and I think all of us did well to do that after their goal," he told UEFA.com.
"We responded well, and we're in a good position now. We're going to do everything we can to get through to the next round, and we've given ourselves a good chance with these three goals.
"The best way to play the game is always our own way, and we will go and try to win it. We're going to try to take it step by step, and think about it like that."
The second leg in Newcastle takes place next Thursday at 8.05pm.
