Romelu Lukaku: 'Belgium have built winning mentality'

Romelu Lukaku believes that Belgium's successful World Cup qualifying campaign proves that they now have a winning mentality ahead of next summer's finals.

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku believes that his side's successful World Cup qualifying campaign proves they have built a winning mentality throughout the squad.

Lukaku scored twice last night to help Belgium beat Croatia 2-1 in Zagreb, with the victory enough to book Marc Wilmots's side a place in their first major tournament since 2002.

After holding on late against Croatia the Everton loanee declared that the spirit shown proves that Belgium have grown as a team, rather than relying on individual talent.

He told Het Nieuwsblad: "I'm not the match-winner, the team makes a difference. We played well. The players and I can finally stamp our personality on the team, I am proud.

"The last quarter we were difficult [to break down] but two years ago we could still have lost here 2-1. Now we have shown that we have a winning mentality.

"On Tuesday we play at home in the last match [against Wales] but it is certainly not a meaningless match. We will do everything to win."

Belgium wrap up a hugely successful Group A campaign on Tuesday night at home to Wales.
