Half-Time Report: Augsburg holding Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich fail to make a breakthrough in a goalless opening 45 minutes against Augsburg.

Augsburg put in a strong defensive performance to frustrate Bayern Munich in a goalless first half at SGL Arena.

Bayern were on top from the first whistle, and they came agonisingly close to an early goal when Arjen Robben fired just past the post after evading a couple of challenges on the edge of the box.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, making his first start of the season in the Bundesliga, also threatened after finding space to meet a corner, but Alex Manninger reacted well to push the ball to safety.

Manuel Neuer came to the rescue for the visitors with a fine save after Tobias Werner had lost his marker inside the box.

The champions continued to struggle to find a breakthrough at the other end, with Robert Lewandowski being kept quiet by the stubborn Augsburg defence.

When Bayern did manage to create chances, they were frustrated by the in-form Manninger, who reacted well to get a firm hand on another low effort from Robben.
