Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers share spoils in four-goal draw

Barnsley and Blackburn Rovers draw 2-2 in their Championship game at Oakwell this evening.

Barnsley and Blackburn Rovers have drawn 2-2 in their Championship clash at Oakwell this evening.

The away side started brightly, and Tom Cairney saw his shot pushed away for a corner by Luke Steele inside the first five minutes.

Nick Proschwitz then missed a good opportunity to open the scoring on his Barnsley debut, but the German shot straight at Paul Robinson when one-on-one.

He didn't have to wait long to open his account though, as he volleyed home Dale Jennings's cross just before the half-hour mark.

The lead lasted just seven minutes, as Cairney sent a dipping 25-yard strike over the head of Steele to level the scores.

A minute before the break, Rudy Gestede put the visitors ahead with a simple finish after good work by David Dunn.

Proschwitz continued to cause problems for the visitors, and he came close again early in the second half and Jim O'Brien fired just wide.

In the 69th minute, the home side were handed a route back into the game when Grant Hanley brought down Liam Lawrence, and Chris O'Grady stepped up to bring Barnsley back on level terms.

With 20 minutes left, Lee Williamson left the field on a stretcher but still Rovers pushed for a winner, with Jordan Rhodes flashing a shot into the side-netting from a tight angle.

In the eighth minute of injury time, Rhodes saw his header at the far post drift inches wide as both sides had to settle for a point.
