Result: Barcelona 5-0 Atletico Madrid

Barcelona move up to second in La Liga with a 5-0 win at home to Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona have moved up to second place in La Liga with a 5-0 win at home to Atletico Madrid.

David Villa opened the scoring when he calmly slotted past Atletico keeper Thibaut Courtois.

It was 2-0 five minutes later after Courtois had made a good save from Lionel Messi, only to see the ball bounce off his own defender Miranda and go into the net.

A rampant Barcelona scored another before the break after Messi sold a dummy to an opposition defender before firing in at Courtois' near post.

The Argentine scored again on 78 minutes when he accelerated into the box before firing low into the net.

Messi's hat-trick was complete with five minutes to play, hammering the ball between Courtois' legs after he had exchanged passes with Villa.
