Barcelona confirm that coach Tito Vilanova will receive further cancer treatment in New York next week.

Barcelona have confirmed that coach Tito Vilanova will receive further cancer treatment in New York next week.

The 44-year-old will return to the USA after spending two months in the country earlier this year to undergo radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Vilanova has also had surgery on his parotid gland in his native Spain during the past two years.

"Tito Vilanova has confirmed at a press conference that he will have further treatment for cancer next week in New York," read a statement on Barca's official website.

"The pioneering treatment has been developed at a specialised centre and is proving particularly effective.

"It was originally planned for this summer but as Barca has now clinched the league title it has been advanced to next week. Tito Vilanova will be away from Barcelona from Monday to Friday."

Vilanova took over the Spanish champions last summer after Pep Guardiola's decision to step down at Camp Nou.
