Barcelona confirm that Tito Vilanova will step down as the club's manager in order to continue his cancer treatment.

Barcelona have confirmed that head coach Tito Vilanova is to leave the club after just one season in charge.

The Spaniard is stepping down due to ill health, having battled two bouts of throat cancer.

Speaking at a press conference, club president Sandro Rosell said: "Tito Vilanova will continue treatment of his illness, he will not be able to continue as FC Barcelona's head manager.

"This is a very difficult blow to the club, but we have overcome many difficult setbacks. We will most likely announce the name of the next FC Barcelona manager early next week."

Vilanova replaced Pep Guardiola last summer.
