A report claims that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone will hand Amath Diedhiou the chance to impress during pre-season.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone will reportedly hand Senegalese forward Amath Diedhiou the chance to impress during pre-season ahead of a possible return to the first-team squad next season.

Diedhiou, 20, joined Atletico from Real Valladolid in 2014, and scored 10 times in 34 league appearances for Atletico Madrid B during the 2015-16 season.

The striker then spent last season on loan at Tenerife, and scored 12 times in 34 league appearances as the club fell just short of their bid to secure promotion to La Liga.

According to Marca, Simeone had planned to send Diedhiou on loan once again next season, but the club's transfer ban has forced the Atletico boss into a rethink, and the youngster could now feature for the Madrid giants next term.

Espanyol and Alaves are both said to be closely monitoring developments.
