Eduardo Berizzo plays down Augusto Fernandez rumours

Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo plays down suggestions that Augusto Fernandez could leave the club amid talk of interest from Atletico Madrid.

Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo has insisted that he 'has no fears' about the future of Augusto Fernandez amid suggestions that Atletico Madrid want to sign the 29-year-old.

Last week, it was reported that Atletico boss Diego Simeone had identified the Argentine as the perfect player to replace Tiago, who will be out of action with a fractured leg for the next three months.

However, Berizzo has branded Fernandez "an indispensable player" and has played down talk that the midfielder could depart.

"I have no fears about [Augusto] leaving. If you ask me whether we'd allow him to leave, I'd say that he's an indispensable player for us," Berizzo told reporters.

"We haven't spoken [about the rumours], but Augusto already knows what I think of him. He knows how highly we value him. He's an indispensable player and I can't imagine us letting go of him."

It is understood that Atletico could sign Fernandez for as little as £4m if Velez Sarsfield, who own 50% of the player's contract, agree to sell.
