It was the away side who started the stronger, but Mallorca so nearly took the lead after 11 minutes with an effort from Victor, but his strike just missed the post.

Madrid were next to go close after 14 minutes via Mario Suarez, but his header was pushed wide by Dudu Aouate.

Mallorca took the lead moments into the second period when Diego Godin scored an own goal after good work from Michael Pereira, before Pereira added the home side's second with a cool finish to send them 2-0 ahead after 49 minutes.

The home side were reduced to ten men after 53 minutes, however, when Ivan Ramis was shown a red card for a hand ball in the area, but Falcao's penalty was pushed away by Aouate.
