Fernando Torres 'not surprised' by Spain snub

Fernando Torres says that he was 'not surprised' to be left out of the provisional Spain squad for the European Championships this summer.

Fernando Torres has revealed that he was 'not surprised' to be left out of Spain's provisional squad for Euro 2016.

The striker's form for Atletico Madrid in the second half of the season led to calls for the 32-year-old to be reinstated in the national team.

However, Torres was not present in Vicente del Bosque's latest selection, something that did not come as a shock to the AC Milan forward, who has not represented La Roja since 2014.

"It wasn't a surprise, I've had two years without being called. I wish them well, I'm a fan, I wish the national team the best," AS quotes Torres as saying.

"I never saw an option to go to the national team and now I support them to do something never seen before: win the Euros three times in a row. I've got the most important game of my life {the Champions League final) and the national team isn't going to affect my concentration for a second. Everything else is secondary.

"Nobody called me when the squad was announced but that's not a problem. It's not going to affect me, it's part of football. I'm not concerned at all. I'm Spanish and I want Spain to win."

Torres is reportedly closing in on a permanent move from Milan to Atletico.
