Aston Villa have reportedly identified Huddersfield Town defender Michael Hefele as a potential transfer target.
Since the end of the season, it has been well documented that Villa are experiencing financial difficulties and cutbacks at the Championship outfit are expected this summer.
However, Steve Bruce faces a shortage at centre-back, with John Terry, Christopher Samba and Tommy Elphick having already left the club and doubts remaining over the future of James Chester.
According to The Mirror, that has resulted in Hefele being shortlisted as a possible arrival after the German struggled for appearances in the Premier League during the last campaign.
An injury during the early stages of the season saw the centre-back drop down the pecking order and just two substitute outings came in the top flight.
With the Terriers already adding Terence Kongolo to their squad, Hefele is expected to be available and Villa are likely to firm up their interest in the 27-year-old.
