Aston Villa fans to stage walkout

Aston Villa fans will stage a mass walkout in their next three Premier League home games.

Aston Villa fans will stage a walkout in the 74th minute of their next three home games in a protest at the club's current position.

The Midlands side are firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and failed to strengthen their squad in the mid-season transfer window, leading fans to turn on American owner Randy Lerner.

Supporter Mark Bricknell is behind the planned protest, which will start in the midweek clash with Everton on March 1.

"I think the support now is going to be down to the hardcore, those that go rain or shine. There are thousands that have turned their back on the club already," Bricknell told Sky Sports News.

"We don't want to ask supporters to stay away. That would be as alien to ask supporters to stay away as it would be not to attend a friend's wedding or funeral so we're not going to ask that.

"We're going to ask them to give up 16 minutes at the end of the game to show our disdain really at a lack of direction from the club and a lack of vision over the last six years and what appears to be a lack of vision going forward."

Villa, who lost 6-0 to Liverpool at Villa Park last time out, are next back in Premier League action this Saturday when they travel to Stoke City.
