Ajax are reportedly preparing to allow midfielder Jordan Henderson leave the club in order to sign for a Ligue 1 giant.

Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson is reportedly on the brink of joining a Ligue 1 club.

Having cut short his time with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq in January last year, Henderson has established himself as a key man at Ajax.

A total of 43 appearances have been made in all competitions, with Henderson chipping in with eight assists from the centre of the pitch.

Furthermore, Francesco Farioli's side are providing the strongest challenge to leaders and defending champions PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Eredivisie table.

Nevertheless, as per transfer Fabrizio Romano, Henderson is seemingly closing in on a switch to a Champions League participant.

Where is Henderson moving?

Romano says that the 34-year-old will soon become a Monaco player on a deal that will run until the end of 2025-26.

Ajax have seemingly made the decision to cash in on the England international, rather than keep him in their ranks as they bid to win another Dutch title.

Monaco have qualified for the playoff stage of the Champions League having finished in 17th place in the standings, despite losing 3-0 at Inter Milan on Wednesday night.

Henderson's former club Liverpool are one of their possible opponents in the last 16 should they progress through the next round.

Adi Hutter is under pressure to kickstart their Ligue 1 campaign with Monaco now sitting third and 13 points adrift of leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

A chance to reclaim England spot?

Given his veteran status, it is unclear whether Henderson will be considered for a recall to the England squad under new head coach Thomas Tuchel.

The last of Henderson's 81 caps came in November 2023, yet making an impact in the Champions League - should a transfer go through - may be enough to convince the German.

Tuchel has been appointed to win the World Cup, rather than oversee years of development, and the short-term nature of his deal may encourage him to considering bringing Henderson back into the fold.
