Arsene Wenger: 'Arsenal not close to signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirms that the club "are not close" to signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that the club "are not close" to completing a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Club officials from Arsenal, including CEO Ivan Gazidis, are understood to be in Germany discussing terms over a possible move for the wantaway Gabon international.

Dortmund are willing to sell having grown frustrated with Aubameyang's disciplinary problems this season, but the two clubs are still some way apart in their valuation of the player.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to use Olivier Giroud as a makeweight in any deal, but Wenger has hinted that the two clubs are no closer to reaching an agreement.

"Confident or not confident, I don't know. We are not close to a deal for Aubameyang with Dortmund or anybody else," he told reporters in his pre-match press conference ahead of the EFL Cup semi-final with Chelsea on Wednesday.

"You never know how close you are. At the moment it's one of the possible movements, the final decision is not made."

Aubameyang has scored 21 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund so far this season.
