Jan Vertonghen will 'gladly go' to Arsenal

Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen admits that he would "gladly go" to Arsenal if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.

Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen has admitted that he would "gladly go" to Arsenal if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.

The 24-year-old, who is expected to leave the Dutch side over the summer, has attracted interest from a number of European teams.

However, the Belgian has revealed that the Emirates Stadium is his first-choice destination should a move happen at the end of the season.

"Arsenal are a magnificent club and I hear a lot of good things about English football," he told The Mirror. "If a club of Arsenal's calibre can reach agreement with Ajax, then I will gladly go over.

"I have instructed my agent carefully. He knows which clubs I want to join, and Arsenal are one of them."

Vertonghen joined Ajax's famed youth academy in 2003 before he signed a professional deal three years later.
