Manchester City have ended their pursuit of Robin van Persie after city rivals Manchester United moved into pole position to sign the striker.
Manager Roberto Mancini admitted that he has been frustrated with City's lack of transfer activity this summer, with the Blues the only Premier League side not to have added to their squad yet.
Now Mancini, who has been linked with the likes of Daniel Agger, Scott Sinclair and Daniele De Rossi, believes that any potential move for Van Persie is unlikely.
"We only have 20 days to the end of the market and I don't think that we have any chance for him," he said.
Mancini has previously stated his belief that his side needs to be strengthened if they are to retain the Premier League title.
