Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira suggests that he has struggled to adapt to life in England, claiming that 'life was better in Italy'.

Lucas Torreira has suggested that he would be open to leaving Arsenal if he were able to return to Italy.

The midfielder left Sampdoria to move to the Emirates Stadium last summer, making a total of 31 starts and 18 substitute outings in his first campaign.

However, Arsenal may face a battle to keep Torreira, who has indicated that he has not enjoyed many aspects of life in England.

The 23-year-old told Ovacion: "I don't know if there are many things that I enjoy. I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, a very large country.

"The language has stopped me, to be able to relate with my teammates and with the people. It is very difficult when you can't have dialogue, and so is the climate. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy, you arrive late to your home and it is cloudy.

"It is strange a little bit, the sun, the more of us that we are here and we are accustomed to having always or almost always the sun. But as the years pass, I'm going to be adapting."

Torreira - an alleged target for AC Milan - still has four years remaining on his contract.
