Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists that there is still a role at the club for experienced attacker Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has insisted that there is still a role at the club for Mesut Ozil.

The German has not played a minute of football for the Gunners since the restart and has been left out of the squad entirely for three of their five games in all competitions since the middle of June.

The speculation surrounding the experienced attacker continues to gather pace as his contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire in the summer of 2021.

However, Arteta has claimed that the 31-year-old can still have a future at the club.

"Players can adapt to different systems and we can adapt systems for different players," Arteta told the Evening Standard. "Sometimes it is not just about what we want to play or how we want to play.

"Sometimes we have to field the players we have available in the right moments, in the right positions, to perform and be comfortable to do what we require. There is always a place for a player of his quality."

Ozil is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers due to a back problem.
