Giovanni Trapattoni has confirmed that Kevin Doyle will play no part in the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Croatia tomorrow evening.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, sustained a knee injury in March and has failed to recover in time to feature at the Aviva Stadium.
"The news from this morning is that we saw Doyle is not 100% fit and we decided with the doctor that he could go back to his club," said Trapattoni.
"It is better that his club decides for the future whether he should play or not."
Doyle joined Wolves in 2009 from Reading for a fee of £6.5m.
