Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood aims to change team's 'losing mentality'

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood blames his side's 4-0 hammering at the hands of Arsenal on a "losing mentality".

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has admitted that his side have a "losing mentality" in the wake of their 4-0 mauling at the hands of Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

The Villans boss said that changing the team's mindset is his top priority ahead of next season, as he deems this essential to avoiding another relegation battle.

"It's been a gradual process since I've come in here. We've stayed in the division, but we came up short today because Arsenal were better. We have a losing mentality at this football club. They've been scraping relegation for the past four years, that can't be right," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"We need to try and change that, either by bringing in new personnel or making these players winners. It's not just new additions to the squad also getting some of the players we do have to play in a different way, to change the mentality of a few of them.

"We gave the fans nothing to cheer about today but I can promise them it will get better. We don't want to be scraping relegation next season."

Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, Per Mertesacker, and Olivier Giroud were on target for the Gunners during their resounding victory at Wembley.
