Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood: 'Arsenal too good in FA Cup final'

Beaten Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood credits Arsenal for their "world-class" performance in beating his side 4-0 in the FA Cup final.

Beaten Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has conceded that Arsenal were "too good" in this evening's FA Cup final at Wembley.

Villa caused a shock in the semi-finals by coming from behind to beat Liverpool, but they were outclassed today as Arsene Wenger's Gunners ran out 4-0 winners to clinch the trophy for a record 12th time.

When asked why Villa fell short, Sherwood told BT Sport: "[Arsenal] were too good. Too good for us today.

"Credit where credit's due. They've got world-class players and they popped it around us today. Simple as that."

Sherwood was confident in his side before kickoff, but felt that Arsenal limited his side well.

"We believed that we could have won it, but we just didn't do it today," he added. "We couldn't nullify them and we couldn't impose ourself on them.

"But you've got to give Arsenal credit for that. Unfortunately it wasn't our day today, but we'll be back."

Villa were competing in their first final since 2000 and chasing a first FA Cup win since 1957.

By losing, they miss out on a place in the Europa League, which goes to seventh-placed Premier League side Southampton.
