AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri wants more done to combat racism in the Italian game after Roma fans marred their clash at the San Siro with racist chanting.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has insisted that more needs to done to combat racism in the Italian game after chants marred his side's goalless draw with Roma.

Early in the second half the referee suspended play for two minutes as racist chants were directed towards Mario Balotelli from the Roma supporters.

After a warning was issued to Roma fans about their conduct play continued, but Allegri thinks that further steps are necessary to address the issue in his country.

He told Sky Italia: "Unfortunately the mentality is still retrograde. We must all try to improve, because people go to the stadium to see a spectacle and not for this sort of thing."

A fierce clash also saw Sully Muntari dismissed for physically restraining the referee, with Allegri conceding that his behaviour was unacceptable.

He said: "Muntari really shouldn't be doing things like this, as it is important for a team to have all 11 men on the field. We need to stay calm.

"We're still in a positive position in the table, so can prepare with calm for the next match. I could've made some other changes without that red card, but that's the way it went."

Francesco Totti was also dismissed in stoppage time as Milan held firm for a point that sees them remain in pole position for Champions League qualification.
