Tom Daley expects Glasgow Commonwealth Games to recreate London 2012 atmosphere

Olympic diver Tom Daley tells Sports Mole that the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow can recreate the feel-good factor from the London 2012 Olympics.

British diver Tom Daley believes next month's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow can recreate the feel-good factor that surrounded the country during the London 2012 Olympics.

The 20-year-old was one of Britain's athletes that soaked up the atmosphere, before going on to clinch a bronze medal in the 10m platform event two years ago.

Since then, the Plymouth-born diver has spent the majority of his time under the spotlight following television stints as a diving mentor on ITV reality show Splash!, but all that focus will return to Daley's ability as a competitor when he arrives in Scotland next month.

Daley will lead a 15-strong Team England as he bids to retain his title following triumph in the Delhi Games, where he won gold medals in the 10m platform and platform synchro in 2010.

While the British athletes are expected to take centre stage in Glasgow, Daley has revealed that he and his compatriots have received support all over the world - most recently in Mexico, where he won silver and scored a personal best at the World Series earlier this month.

"In this past year, it's been crazy!" Daley told Sports Mole. "Every World Series that I've been to there's been an overwhelming strong support team for all the British divers and it's been great.

"In Mexico, the support was crazy - I just posted a YouTube video onto my channel from a town in Mexico and you'll see that there's British flags flying everywhere, so yeah, it's amazing. I can't wait to dive at the Commonwealth Games because the crowd last time that I dived for in Edinburgh for the World Series last year was amazing."

When asked if the London 2012 atmosphere can be recreated on Scottish land, Daley replied: "Absolutely! I think it gives everyone a taste of that buzz again and everyone's going to get behind all the athletes. It's getting really close now."

Daley has also insisted that he is solely focused on himself heading into the Games, which get underway on July 23.
