New Zealand romp to 12-try victory against USA

Sonny Bill Williams scores two of 12 New Zealand tries as the All Blacks thump USA 74-6 in their first match on American soil since the 1980s.

New Zealand recorded a 12-try victory over USA at Soldier Field in their first match on American soil since the 1980s.

The All Blacks were off the mark inside five minutes when Cory Jane crossed over, and that lead was soon extended courtesy of Patrick Tuipulotu.

Adam Siddall kicked over two penalties to drag the home side right back into the game, although that proved to be the end of their scoring for the night.

Patrick Tuipulotu found the chalk soon after, as did Charles Piutau, while the latter of those tries was sandwiched between a Sonny Bill Williams double which increased the scoreline further.

Try number six of the first half fell to Julian Savea, as the world champions highlighted the gulf between the two sides in Chicago.

Joe Moody, Aaron Crudy, Israel Dragg and Sam Cane crossed over within 20 minutes of each other to build New Zealand's confidence ahead of trickier games in the coming weeks against England, Wales and Scotland.

The final try of the evening came from Savea, who added his second and the All Blacks' 12th in the dying stages to complete a 74-6 win.
