Ireland duo Mack Hansen and James Ryan both miss training ahead of their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against New Zealand, but three injury doubts do take part.

Ireland duo Mack Hansen and James Ryan were both absent from training on Tuesday, just one day before head coach Andy Farrell names his team to face New Zealand in the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup.

Both players sustained injuries during Saturday's pool-stage victory over Scotland, which confirmed the world's number-one side's place in knockout rounds against three-time champions New Zealand.

Winger Hansen initially went off for a head injury assessment but then suffered a calf issue, which limited him to a watching brief during training on Tuesday.

Second row Ryan, meanwhile, was absent entirely after injuring his hand during the final group game.

There was better news on the injury front elsewhere, though, with James Lowe taking a non-contact part in the session despite being forced off at half time against Scotland due to an eye problem.

Keith Earls and Robbie Henshaw, both of whom missed the Scotland game due to hamstring injuries, were also involved.

Ireland came through a difficult Pool B with a 100% record courtesy of wins over reigning champions South Africa and Six Nations rivals Scotland, as well as Tonga and Romania, but now must overcome the All Blacks to make it into the last four.

Ireland have never made it beyond the quarter-finals at a Rugby World Cup before, but have been tipped as potential winners this year after claiming a Six Nations Grand Slam as part of an ongoing 17-match winning streak in Tests - just one short of the all-time record jointly held by New Zealand and England.
