Ireland victorious in Argentina

Ireland defeat Argentina 17-29 to pick up their first ever victory on Argentine soil.

Ireland have picked up their first ever victory on Argentinian soil following a 17-29 triumph over the Pumas at the Estadio Centenario.

Two Jonny Sexton penalties inside the opening 19 minutes gave the visitors an early lead in the contest, before Nicolas Sanchez found the sticks himself to pull his side back within touching distance.

Benjamin Macome was shown a yellow card just before the half-hour mark following a nasty aerial collision with Andrew Trimble, although just two minutes later Argentina were ahead for the first time when Manuel Montero crossed the line.

Sanchez kicked over for the extras, but Ireland hit back shortly after through a Chris Henley try to take a slender half-time lead.

Sexton crossed over for the second time in the match three minutes after the interval, while Trimble also found the line to put the Six Nations champions into a commanding second-half position.

Ireland extended their lead further courtesy of two Ian Madigan pens as the friendly edged towards a close, but there was still time for Tomas De La Vega to add a fifth try of the match with one minute remaining to restore some pride for Los Pumas.
