Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte claims that the controversial penalty which handed his side a 1-0 win over Burnley was "200%" clear.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has claimed that his side's game-winning penalty against Burnley in Sunday's Premier League clash was "200%" clear.

The Lilywhites were frustrated for long periods against a fired-up Burnley in a bad-tempered clash but were handed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock just before the end of the first half.

Referee Kevin Friend was instructed to look at the VAR monitor as the ball struck the outstretched arm of Ashley Barnes from close range, and Spurs were ultimately awarded the spot kick.

Harry Kane stepped up to convert a history-creating penalty - becoming the first player to score 70 Premier League goals on two days of the week - but frustrations boiled over in the tunnel at half time.

Spurs held on for a win which temporarily takes them two points clear of Arsenal in fourth place in the table, but there was plenty of controversy surrounding the awarding of the penalty.

Conte was adamant that the officials came to the correct decision, though, telling reporters at his post-match press conference: "I think 200 per cent a penalty, not 100 per cent. It was so clear.

"It was very difficult to understand the complaints, if your arm is in this way and you take the ball, I think it is very, very clear, honestly."

A sickness bug threatened to derail Spurs' preparations for the clash with the Clarets, with Dejan Kulusevski - who came off the bench - among four players to have been infected in recent days.

Conte subsequently revealed that Hugo Lloris, Pierluigi Gollini and Harry Winks had also come down with the bug, and he lavished praise on the former for starting and keeping a clean sheet amid his recent illness.

"It wasn't easy because yesterday morning the doctor sent me a message that a few players they felt not well and with a stomach problem, vomiting and also fever," Conte added.

"For this reason, Kulusevski didn't have a training session, also Gollini, also Hugo. He was not in a perfect condition today, also Winksy. Despite this we face the game in the right way and I am so happy because I have seen a team that has improved in many aspects. Now this team is ready to fight in every game.

"Hugo had a fever but it was strange that this type of situation for Hugo and also Gollini, but no chance to miss an important game for Hugo and for Gollo.

"They showed to be very professional, to understand very well the moment, the importance of the moment and the players for sure not in 100% the physical condition at the top but Hugo is our captain and I think that never never he wanted to miss this game."

Arsenal must now take all three points against Newcastle United to return to the top four, and Conte has joked that he wants to "suffer" by watching the St James' Park contest.

"For sure I will watch the game because I love football and I want to watch and I want also to suffer. But I think it is a big achievement for the last game to have the possibility to take a place into Champions League because I don't forget our path since November and we will see what happens," Conte responded.

"I also think Arsenal did a really good job this season because they didn't play in Europe and now they have a chance to play in the Champions League."

Spurs' final game of the season sees them take on Norwich City at Carrow Road, while Arsenal welcome Everton to the Emirates Stadium next Sunday.
